Last weekend saw the Cascades Forest District host the 7th Annual Dan LeClerc Memorial BC Forest Service Hockey Tournament. The tournament was held at the Shulus Community Arena.

This co–ed hockey tournament has been rotated around various forest districts over the past 7 years starting in Port McNeil in 2004. 

The tournament is open to  BC Forest Service past and present employees, spouses, sons and daughters and close relatives. 

The tournament is held to honour  Dan LeClerc was an employee of the BC Forest Service for 7 years but was tragically taken from the BC Forest Service family at the age of 39 on May 11, 2002 in a motor vehicle accident. He left behind him his two young sons Matthew and Derrick. 

LeClerc helped organize many hockey and baseball tournaments and was known as Dan-boni as LeClerc would slide all over the ice in his effort to stay upright.

All teams attended a baron of beef/chicken barbeque at the curling rink Saturday night and the festivities continued into the wee hours there and at local establishments. 

Some tournament participants took in the Cents game adding to the high attendance and helping to celebrate their win over Trail. 

The oldest participant of the tournament was Phil Lockie at the ripe age of 77, illustrating the tournaments emphasis on fun and inclusiveness.
