Two suspected car thieves are being held in custody and will attend Kamloops court later this week after they were arrested in Merritt last weekend.

Thirty-one-year-old Allan Ray Mcabee of Kamloops and 22-year-old Jamie Pegg of Clearwater were both arrested on multiple charges including possession of stolen property after Merritt police identified a stolen vehicle that was spotted in the Kamloops area Friday afternoon.

According to RCMP Cst. Tracy Dunsmore, on July 22 at 3:30 p.m. Merritt RCMP were told to be on the lookout for the vehicle, a 2006 GMC Yukon, as well as another vehicle that had been spotted near Kamloops.

A Merritt RCMP officer noticed a vehicle that fit one of the descriptions parked at Super Save Gas on Nicola Ave around 9:15 p.m. When the officer pulled in to check on the vehicle, a male associated with the vehicle began walking slowly away.

RCMP confirmed that the vehicle was stolen out of Clearwater and the suspect male was stopped by police, identified as Mcabee and arrested, said Dunsmore.

“A second male had exited and left the vehicle prior to back up attending,” she said.

Further investigation on July 23 led police to a residence in town where they located and arrested Pegg at around 12:30 a.m. as well as a third male, though no charges were laid against him. Dunsmore said Pegg was a suspect after police searched the vehicle and found personal belongings in her name.

Pegg was charged with possession of stolen property, and failing to comply with recognizance.

Mcabee is charged with possession of stolen property, possession of stolen identification, possession of a prohibited weapon (a knife), possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and obstruction of a police officer.
