Concert to celebrate 100th
The Nicola Valley Community Arts Council will present the Centennial Community Concert on Tuesday, April 19 at the Civic Centre to celebrate 100 years of arts in the Nicola Valley.
Held at the Merritt Centre at 7 p.m. the event will include performances from the Community Band, the Community Choir, the Bench School Choir, Ray Tippe and Friend (an old time band) and Jody Okabe.
First Nations Hoop Dancers, a selection of ballet numbers, Indo-Canadian dance, as well as a Men’s Barbershop Quartet and a piano presentation by Cecilia Dyck will also be on the program for the evening’s celebrations.
The evening will begin with a welcome given by Jerry Voght, a great, great grandson of Merritt’s town father, William Voght and the final item on the program will feature a slide presentation by Murphy Shewchuk and a combined choir and band presentation of the Nicola Valley.
There will also be displays in the foyer featuring local artists and a display from the museum to complement the music and dance perfomances in the auditorium.
Admission to the concert is free, but the Nicola Valley Community Arts Council will be accepting donations to be given to local charities and the Red Cross.
“We expect a great evening showcasing some of the fantastic talent we have in this area,” said Kurt Christopherson. “We hope to have a full house.”
