A little bit of this and that in Logan Lake
Those of you who know me, know I love to share good news stories. And, Logan Lake is a community which truly sparkles because of the generosity of its residents who give of their time, their skills and who donate food and clothing to those in need.
A perfect example of this happened recently when Jaci Sarver, a social worker with the ASK Wellness Centre in Merritt who lives in our community, sent out a notice on the Logan Laker Facebook page. Her message was the Community Response Emergency Winter Shelter, which caters to the homeless and provides a place to sleep and two meals a day during the cold of winter, would be closing its doors on Saturday, March 31. And, that folks, was no early April Fool’s joke.
Jaci, in her message, asked if people could donate spare blankets and/or soup so ASK might be able to continue to provide some warmth and minimal meals. Well, for those of you who might go to church, you’ll be familiar with one of my absolute favorite Bible passages which can be found in both Matthew 7:7 and Luke 11:9 which says, “Ask and it shall be given unto you; seek and ye shall find.”
Well, Jaci asked and, in the finding and receiving, has been totally amazed by and thankful for the generosity of Logan Lakers saying, “I am overwhelmed by the kind and compassionate response to my request and ASK has received everything I asked for.”
The everything included blankets, clothing, winter coats, and bags of groceries and for all this, Jaci added, “Merritt’s ASK Wellness Centre is sincerely grateful for all the gifts which were donated and we are thankful to be able to give out the coats, blankets and food to those in need.”
Yet another quote from the Book of Matthew is required to close this story, “The King said,”Whatever you did for one of my brothers or sisters, no matter how unimportant they seemed, you did for me.” And, I’m very sure God won’t mind if, those of you who gave to the least of these in Merritt, reward yourselves with a humble pat on the back.
