The driver of a commercial transport truck is dead after his rig left Highway 5A south of Kamloops early Tuesday morning and went over a cliff.

Emergency crews were called to Cardu Hill, south of Knutsford, just after 3 a.m. for a report of a single-vehicle accident.

The collision involved a southbound commercial transport truck that was hauling lumber.

RCMP Sgt. Mike Pears said one person is dead.

“The transport truck has gone off the road to the right and over a steep embankment,” he said.

Pears said the investigation is ongoing.

The cause and circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown at this time.

The RCMP will be working with the BC Coroners Service and the Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement to determine the cause of the crash.
