Organizers of the Element Music Festival are prepared to put on a show that’s bigger and better than their inaugural event last year.

“It’s going to be a dance party,” said Keith Duggan, one of the festival’s founders. “That’s what we’re about. We’re about getting a whole bunch of people together, having incredible music, dancing [and] camping.”

The festival is located approximately 55 kilometres south of town, at 750 Pike Mountain Road, where organizers have spent the year developing the grounds.

Duggan said the festival site this year has better lighting, sound, a stage four times the size of last year’s, more parking, security and lifeguards.

Duggan said they can host 4,000 people at the site, however, just 1,500 tickets have been sold to the 2017 Element Music Festival to date.

The event has brought in attendees from all over, however, with tickets being sold to residents of 22 states in the U.S., seven provinces and seven countries, Duggan said.

“People are making the trip from great distances for this line-up we’ve put together — and this venue,” said Duggan.

The numbers are still an improvement from the 2016 event, which saw about 300 attendees.

The festival features a variety of music such as reggae, folk and funk music — essentially everything that isn’t hip hop, heavy metal, electronica and country music.

“Everything else is fair game,” said Duggan. “And we’re super family friendly too,” he added, noting face painting and circus arts activities that will be on site.

The festival also features its biggest line-upto date, with the likes of The String Cheese Incident, Steve Kimock & Friends, the return of Garaj Mahal, Genetics, Five Alarm Funk, Brickhouse and Big Easy Funk Ensemble.

The festival begins today and runs until Aug. 6.

Tickets are still available at the gate.
