One man is dead after a single vehicle crash on Highway 8 some 2.6 kilometres west of Merritt, say RCMP.

The 47-year-old driver of a Hyundai Tiburon was travelling westbound on Highway 8 at about 3 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle, which went off the road and struck a dirt embankment causing the vehicle to roll and cartwheel.

The male driver was ejected from the vehicle in the process and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Central Interior Traffic Services and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services are assisting the BC Coroner’s Service with the investigation.

Speed, alcohol and seatbelt are being followed up on as contributing factors.
