Rescue crews responded to several motor vehicle accidents over the weekend, as icy early-morning conditions made roads hazardous for drivers.

According to local emergency department authorities, no fatalities or serious injuries occured.

The majority of calls regularly responded to by Merritt rescue crews are related to motor vehicle accidents.

Roads are especially dangerous when the temperature is above freezing during the day, then the water freezes overnight.

This causes hazardous roads and black ice until temperatures rise in the late morning or early afternoon.

Aside from the vehicle accidents, the fire department responded to an alarm initiated when someone burned bacon.
