The Merritt branch of the Royal Canadian Legion will be celebrating Legion Week tomorrow (June 25), as the club will be hosting a hot dog lunch outside their headquarters on Quilchena Avenue.

The event is a chance for the community to better understand the Legion and the services provided to the community’s armed forces veterans, said Jan Oswald, secretary-treasurer for the Merritt branch.

In addition to the hot dog grill, there will be information for prospective members, as well as display boards detailing the fundraising efforts made by the club this year.

“This is a fairly big event for the Legion,” said Oswald, noting that the biggest event for the club is Remembrance Day in November.

Although everyone will be welcome on Saturday to check out the club’s headquarters, Oswald said that members can also sign in guests on regular days for a visit.

There are 188 members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 96, though some have moved away from the Nicola Valley without changing their membership, noted Oswald. Membership to one Legion permits a member to enter any Legion branch however.

The barbecue is set to get underway at 4:30 p.m., while Legion Week is scheduled to run from June 24 to 30.
