Merritt’s MLA is moving up the political ladder.
Fraser-Nicola MLA Jackie Tegart has been acclaimed as chair of the BC Liberal caucus, making her not only responsible for overseeing caucus meetings, but a liaison between Liberal MLAs and the Premier’s office as well.
As chair, Tegart meets with Christy Clark once per week to discuss concerns, as well as the caucus agenda.
She said having this position is an opportunity to build relationships with the decision-makers in cabinet and the Premier’s office.
“I think any time that we can build stronger relationships, that bodes well for the riding,” she said.
Nominated by members of caucus, Tegart said she thinks her acclimation indicates her colleagues respect her and see her as a leader.
