On Aug. 22 at approximately 2:45 a.m., Merritt RCMP were flagged down by a male who could not stand up due to his level of intoxication. The man, a 54-year-old from Surrey, was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place. The male attempted to walk away from the police but was taken into custody. He then began kicking at the police officers as he was getting into the police vehicle. While the administrative work was being processed at the detachment, the man kicked an officer in the leg. He is facing criminal charges on two counts of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest. He is required to attend provincial court in October.

People riding in pickup box

On Aug. 16 at approximately 2 a.m., Merritt RCMP observed a pickup truck travelling south on Voght Street with several people in the box of the truck. The pickup was stopped and the driver, a 17-year-old female from Langley, was found to have been drinking and her ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired. Her vehicle was impounded for 30 days and her driving privileges were suspended for 90 days.

Man kicks in door, punches homeowner

On Aug. 19 at approximately 4 a.m., Merritt RCMP received a report that a male had kicked in the door of a residence in the 1900 block of Voght Street and stolen money from the owner. In the process, the 41-year-old local man was carrying a knife and punched the owner in the face and slashed at him with the knife. The victim, a local 43-year-old male, received minor injuries. The investigation is continuing as police are trying to locate the 41-year-old man.

Tailgate taken

Sometime between 10 a.m. and 10:20 a.m. on Aug. 20, unknown person(s) stole a tailgate off the back of a Ford F350 super duty truck. The owner advised that he was only away from his vehicle for 20 minutes. He believes that the suspect(s) were also trying to steal a quad that was tied down in the back of the truck.

GPS stolen from vehicle

Sometime overnight on Aug. 16, unknown person(s) stole several items from a vehicle parked in the 1800 block of Douglas Street. Stolen items include a black and grey Garmin GPS unit, a screwdriver and a tire iron.

Change stolen from vehicle

Sometime overnight on Aug. 22, unknown person(s) broke into a vehicle while it was parked in the 2400 block of Reid Avenue. Stolen items include some loose change.

Wallet stolen from vehicle

Sometime overnight on Aug. 22, unknown person(s) broke into a vehicle while it was parked in the 1700 block of Juniper Drive. Items stolen include a wallet containing ID, a SIN card, other personal papers and some coins.

Two injured in brawl

On Aug. 17 at approximately 3 a.m., Merritt RCMP responded to a report that four males had shown up at a residence in the 2500 block of Clapperton Avenue and assaulted two males, ages 27 and 30. The assault allegedly occurred over a past love relationship. A 19-year-old allegedly got upset with the 30-year-old victim and began to punch him, and two friends, aged 24 and 31, joined in the assault. The fourth male allegedly tried to break the fight up and was assaulted by the group. Both victims received cuts but refused to go to the hospital. Charges are pending against the three local men who will appear in provincial court in October.

GPS stolen from vehicle

Sometime overnight on August 19, unknown person(s) broke into a vehicle while it was parked in the 2100 block of Clapperton Avenue. The suspect(s) stole a black Megadallion GPS, a black iPod in a black Otter Box case and two cellphone chargers.
