On Wednesday, Dec. 28, Merritt RCMP responded to a 911 call from a Greyhound Bus passenger complaining that a fellow rider was carrying a knife.

Police received the call at approximately 3:30 p.m. and reports on the police scanner indicated that a passenger was concerned about a man carrying a knife in his pocket who became threatening when he was asked to put it away.

Police investigated the incident when the bus stopped in Merritt, however RCMP Cpl. Doug Stone said no one was charged and described it as a “non-event.”

“It was blown out of proportion,” said Stone. “Two passengers were arguing and the one man had a small pocket knife but it wasn’t used in any way.”

“It sounded more dramatic than it actually was.”

Stone also reported that the Christmas season was fairly quiet for the Merritt RCMP with only 48 occurrences between Dec. 21 and Dec. 28.

“We had only 48 calls for service, which is unusual for Merritt,” said Stone. “There were a few reports of intoxicated folks over the holidays, but it was pretty calm.”
