At about 11 p.m. last night MFRD was called to Bench Elementary School for a fire alarm that turned out to be a faulty compressor.

Failing to keep pressure up on the sprinkler system, the mechanism tripped, triggering the alarm.

“It’s been turned back to the school board, so that’s it,” said Fire Chief Dave Tomkinson following the incident. “False alarm, thankfully.”

Two engines and 12 firefighters responded to the call. “We actually held back some apparatus, once we went through the building and determined there was no fire,” said the chief.
