NOVICE

The Merritt Warriors won their second tournament in a row, going undefeated in Lumby this past weekend. The novices defeated Vernon 8-4, the hosts 11-4 and Winfield 8-0.

Goal scorers for the Warriors in the tournament were Max Graham (9), Breanna Ouellet (7), Allison Moore (7), Preston Laupitz (2) and Hayden Ellis (2).

ATOM HOUSE

The LNB atoms swept Clearwater in straight games to take their best-of-three series on the weekend. Saturday, on home ice, Marco Camastro scored four times as the Jr. Cents defeated their visitors 7-2. Other Merritt marksmen were Garrett MacDonald (2) and Spencer Vaughan.

Sunday, it was Vaughan’s turn to dial up four goals, while Camastro had two and Gordon Ware a single in LNB’s 7-4 victory over Clearwater. Troy Holmes was top notch between the pipes in both games.

ATOM DEVELOPMENT

The Fountain Tire atoms are into the final portion of their regular season schedule prior to hosting the eight-team conference championships on the March 9-11 weekend.

On Sunday, the Jr. Cents rebounded from an early two-goal deficit with four unanswered goals of their own in a 4-2 win over Clearwater at the Shulus arena. Talon Zakall (2) Gillian Moore and Justin Tighe tallied for the Merritt squad, while Nicolas Willey and Tristan Bjarnason shared the victory in net.

PEEWEE GIRLS

After 65 minutes of scoreless hockey, it took a shootout goal by Keisha Henry to secure a 1-0 victory for the local McDonald’s peewee girls in game one of their best-of-three series against Kamloops on Saturday.

If that wasn’t enough drama, the same two teams took it to a shoot-out again one day later in the tournament capital city. Henry, along with McKayla Jones, were the shootout stars on Sunday as Merritt claimed their second straight win, 2-1. Goaltender Emma Ferch was all but unbeatable in net for the McDonald’s peewees.

The local peewee girls are hosting their 2nd annual jamboree this coming weekend with over 150 lasses expected to take to the ice on Saturday and Sunday at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena.

A total of six teams will be in action, with games running from 8:30 a.m. – 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, and 8:15 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Sunday.

PEEWEE HOUSE

The Interior Savings peewees knocked off Logan Lake 13-9 in the first game of their best-of-three series on Saturday. Tyler Mosley had an astonishing seven-goal performance. Other Merritt scorers were Dylan Carmichael, Kerragan Selman, Nkikanxi Grismer-Voght, Fred Ware and Amrit Samra.

Christian McGowan went the distance in net.

PEEWEE REP

The Ramada peewees swept their first-round, best-of-three series against South Okanagan on the weekend with 7-4 and 4-3 wins on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

BANTAM HOUSE

Following a 5-3 win in Lillooet Friday night, the City Furniture bantams closed out best-of-three series with a 4-2 victory on home ice Saturday in game two. Tyrell Suzuki, Trai Carmichael, Darian Ketlo-Sterling and Travis Mosley each scored once for the Jr. Cents at home. Colby Plett and Jake Tourand shared goaltending duties.

BANTAM REP

The Murray GM bantams ended their post-season play on the weekend losing two games to one in their best-of-three series versus Revelstoke. After taking the opener, 7-6, in Logan Lake, the Grizzlies won 5-1 on home ice back in Revelstoke, and then wrapped things up at the Shulus arena on Sunday with a 4-1 win.

MIDGET REP

With four players out of the line-up, the Merritt Tracker Sportswear midgets were edged 3-2 by visiting South Okanagan on Saturday in game one of their best-of-three semi-final series.
