Don’t get me wrong, I am all for a movie theatre, but we were told it would not cost the taxpayers and Merritt’s city council has already given the Merritt Community Cinema Society an exemption from property taxes on their building site and now they are going to give them an exemption of $6,000 for their parking lot.
The question is, has this council lost its values or is it all of society in general when a proposed movie theatre is seen as more important than places of worship, as the province’s rules on statutory tax exemptions does not allow exemptions on even their parking lots?
