Merritt’s freshly elected mayor and council are officially on the job.

A swearing in ceremony was held at city hall last night to mark a new chapter for Merritt’s city council.

Mayor Linda Brown and the new council are set to attend regional and local orientations in the coming weeks.

“And right after that we are heading into budget,” Brown said. “It is a tough process and it begins now, and this will be a learning curve for a lot of them as they go through budget so it will take longer than it has in the past for that very reason. It is going to last up until March, April.”

Brown told the Herald herself and the new council are still getting the hang of things, but she is looking forward to getting down to business.

“It feels real now, and this is where we now get to do what we said we were going to do,” she said.
