Local thieves strike again

Local thieves struck again Sunday morning, smashing the Davis Leather store front and stealing $100 worth of merchandise.

However, more concerning than what the thieves stole, was the $1,000 worth of damage caused when they threw a boulder through the window at 4 a.m., said owner Debbie Davis who lives behind the store with her husband.

The boulder smashed two tiles on the floor as well as the glass front door and Davis said she will be adding bars to the front of her store to prevent others from entering.

“It really scared me — I thought I would have a heart attack,” said Davis who was startled by the crash in the early morning. “I want these kids to know that what they did wasn’t funny. It wasn’t a good feeling to know they could still be in the store.”

Davis said her husband went down to check, but the thieves were gone within seconds. RCMP responded within minutes to her call, but were unable to catch those responsible who fled immediately.

After reviewing footage from her surveillance camera, Davis said she could see someone peering through the window for a while before breaking into the store. She believes that youth were responsible for the incident.

“I constantly see teenagers wandering the streets late at night doing silly things and it’s a problem,” she said.

Last week a similar incident occurred at Fetch Dog and Grooming Boutique.
