Polar Carnival gets off to a fun start

As the Varion Pond Hockey Classic was winding down, the 39th Annual Polar Carnival got off to a fun start on Sunday with a challenging assortment of games and activities for children of all ages.

The fun continued on Monday afternoon when, after school, more than 23 children and youth showed up at the Seniors Centre to participate in a variety  of artistic adventures, including polar bear making, card making and cere painting, made possible by members of the Logan Lake Arts Council and the Wednesday Night Crafters.

The always-anticipated activities associated with Tuesday’s Polar Carnival Block Party had to be cancelled due to very cold weather. However, children, parents and grandparents are encouraged to come out to Friday’s Kid’s Casino at the elementary school, beginning at 6 p.m. because that’s where some of Tuesday’s events, especially the donut eating contest, will be staged. Friday will also see the closing ceremonies for Polar Carnival to be followed at 7:30 p.m. by a hockey game at the Rec. Centre featuring an RCMP team going head-to-head against highly skilled, fast moving Logan Lake opponents. I’m hopeful that referees won’t be handing out on-ice speeding tickets to the Logan Lake “crew.”

I’ll have more news next week about the other events which happened on Wednesday and Thursday, including International Food Night, the Teen Dance at the high school and the Darts Competition on Thursday night.

The winner of the W.H.Y’s scavenger hunt which has been happening all week will also be announced on Friday night so please stay tuned for Carnival wind-up info.
