Greyhound bus engulfed in flames east of Merritt
A Greyhound bus heading from Vancouver to Kelowna went up in flames approximately 50 kilometres from Merritt along Highway 97C at around noon on Saturday.
All 21 passengers managed to access the safety exit uninjured and grabbed their belongings before the bus was fully engulfed and burned to the frame.
Passengers noticed smoke from the cabin as the bus passed near the Pennask Summit.
At the time, the engine was having trouble climbing a hill.
Greyhound officials didn’t confirm the fire’s cause, but an investigation is ongoing.
A second Greyhound bus was sent to pick up the displaced passengers and take them to their destination.
The westbound lane was blocked until the bus was removed.
B.C’s wildfire branch attended to ensure the fire didn’t spread.
