The minor lacrosse season is officially underway.

The Nicola Valley bantam squad kicked off their season with a 5-2 win over North Okanagan on April 7.

The team made the most of a balanced attack which saw five different Nicola Valley players tallying goals for the team.

Gregory Miller opened the scoring in the first period, with the lone assist going to Jalen McRae. North Okanagan answered with a goal of their own in the second, before the Nicola Valley offense kicked into high gear for the third period.

Austyn Street, Carter Shackelly, Lucas Schmid and Jalen McRae found the back of the net. North Okanagan failed to keep pace with the Nicola Valley onslaught, allowing the visiting team to hold on for the win.

The team’s record improved to 2-0 on April 11, as the Nicola Valley Thunder bested the Kamloops Rattlers by a score of 8-1.

The Thunder got off to a quicker start in their second game, with team captain Schmid opening the scoring in the early stages of the first period. Keagan McGifford followed up with a goal of his own after assisting on Schmid’s tally, and it was off to the races for the bantam squad.

Before the first was over, Schmid and McGifford had both scored their second of the game, while Shackelly added a single. Ostyn Fox found the back of the net in the second, while McRae and Shackelly rounded out the scoring in the third.

Tyson Jarvis was a wall in net for the Thunder, shutting the door after allowing only a single goal against in the first period.
