Merritt Secondary School’s girls rugby team opened their season at home against Westsyde Secondary on April 4.

Despite the 49-0 scoreline, head coach Erica Martindale said there were encouraging signs from her developing squad.

“The team handled the loss well though, and were happy to get out on the field for our first game of the season,” she said. “Since then, we have worked heavily on our rucking, tackling, and defensive organization. I look forward to seeing growth this week.”
