Dear Editor,

I have followed the recent letters regarding the ‘decor’ and ‘patronage’ of the Coldwater Hotel.

1. I think you were entirely too hard on yourself for publishing the initial letter from a former tenant. I think it is your job to publish, not critique, such letters. That was news and therefore Merrittonians had a right to read that letter.

2. It became an advertising gold mine for the new proprietors. You can not buy such great space as the first letter produced.

3. Now, all Merrittonians who have read the letters have a greater understanding of exactly where our great old heritage building, the Coldwater Hotel, stands in the community and where its future lies.

I was not aware of the new proprietors’ struggle or indeed that there were new owners.

I am heartened that there are such people who will take on such an endeavour, and I wish them every success.

Mo Tomchuk
