After roaring out of the gate with a seven-under-par 65 and the first-day lead, Merritt golfer Roger Sloan had to settle for fourth place at the Canadian Professional Golf Tour’s inaugural Syncrude Boreal Open in Fort McMurray, Alberta on the weekend.
Sloan, winner of the CPGT’s Western Open in Kamloops just two weeks ago, finished with a 10-under score of 278, four strokes back of winner and fellow Canadian Danny Sahl of Sherwood Park, Alberta. American David Dragoo and Dustin Risdon, from Carseland, Alberta, tied for second place, two strokes behind Sahl and two up on Sloan and Brent Kanda from La Crescenta, California.
Sloan, 24, picked up $6,600 for his weekend’s work in the oil patch, bringing his total earnings after just four events on this year’s CPGT to $38,132. The Merritt golfer sits second on the Order of Merit, behind only Juan Rodriquez of Mexico. Sloan lost to Rodriquez on the first playoff hole at the Mexican Open back on May 5th of this year.
The Canadian Professional Golf Tour makes its way to southern Alberta this weekend for the ATB Financial Classic at the Bearspaw Country Club in Calgary.
