A 55-year-old woman from Oak Bay, B.C. is dead after a two vehicle accident that occurred on Wednesday five kilometres north of Spences Bridge.

According to Lytton RCMP, who responded to the accident at approximately 10:09 a.m. on Dec. 28, a Chevrolet Tracker travelling northbound lost control and swerved in front of a Saturn SL1 heading south on Highway 1.

The 55-year-old woman who was driving the southbound vehicle died at the scene, while the passenger, a 17-year-old female from Oak Bay was transported to Kamloops’ Royal Inland Hospital for treatment, said RCMP Sgt. J.R. Wessel.

The northbound driver, an 18-year-old male from Fort Langley, had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transported to RIH by Air Ambulence for further treatment.

“Icy road conditions are believed to have contributed to the accident,” said Wessel.

RCMP are not releasing the victim’s names pending notification of family members. Central Interior Traffic Services continues to investigate the accident.
