Merritt RCMP have released an update on two criminal matters.

A Merritt woman has been charged with theft after stealing from her employer.

On November 26, 2021, Merritt RCMP front line officers were called to a local business on DeWolf Way as the store owners had located evidence to suggest that one of their employees had allegedly stolen thousands of dollars and various products from them. After a thorough investigation the employee was arrested by officers.

On December 30, 2021, Ms. Jamie Gordon was charged with one count of theft under $5000. She was set to appear in Kamloops Court on January 4, 2021, but the matter was adjourned.

In a separate matter, a Merritt man has also been charged with obstruction after providing a false name and running from police.

On July 25, 2021, Merritt RCMP front line officers were called to 2000 block of Nicola Ave. for a report of a suspicious man entering the stairwell of a closed business. Officers located a man matching the description and stopped him. The man provided a false name to the officers and then fled on foot. After a lengthy foot chase the man was caught in a neighbouring business and taken into custody and determined to be wanted on a warrant.

On December 30, 2021, Mr. Jaimie Koivisto was charged with one count of obstructing a peace officer. He is set to appear in Merritt Courts on January 18, 2022.
