Journeys Into Tomorrow transition house is holding its annual women’s conference on Saturday, offering women from around the Nicola Valley a free day of fashion advice and self-esteem building workshops.

The event, which begins at 10 a.m., features two presentations in the morning: one on how to refurbish a wardrobe, and the other on sewing tips.

Various booths will also be set up throughout the day, from ones that have accessories for women to try on to ones that help women identify properly fitting bras.

Local consultant Rona Sterling-Collins, who specializes in working with aboriginal communities, will lead a workshop on self-esteem in the afternoon.

Dinner will be served beginning at 4:30 p.m. and the day will wrap up with a fashion show.

Snacks, lunch and supper are provided.

There is no cost to attend the event, but pre-registration is recommended.

Journeys Into Tomorrow women’s support worker Dale August said women who register are advised to bring a change of clothes they’d like to show the designers at the event.

August said it’s important for women to develop self-esteem, and being happy with how they look is one way to increase their self-confidence.

“We try to show the ladies there are different options and how to feel good about themselves and not get into these kinds of relationships,” she said. “Violence prevention — that’s what our house is all about.”

The event runs at the Coldwater Band School from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Feb. 28.
