It may not be completely indicative, but B.C. Ferries is giving evidence that B.C. practiced social distancing during the holiday weekend.

Minister of Health Adrian Dix said B.C. Ferries major routes traffic over the weekend dropped down to a total of 14,643, compared to 173,284 in 2019. It marks a decline of 92-percent.

“I’m very proud of communities across B.C. who are doing amazing work,” said Dix. “It may not be perfect…at least not yet perfect.”

Dix said only a few people are defying orders to socially distance, in particular a group this weekend of protesters in Vancouver. He said those promoting such practices should not be given a platform via social media, which can lead to wrong information being shared.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Henry added, “I think people are continuing to do what we need them to do.

“I think it’s safe to say that we have been united in keeping our firewall strong across this province.”
