The TNRD Mobile Library, also known as ‘The Bookmobile’, made its scheduled stop in Lower Nicola at Courtesy Corner on Feb. 6, albeit in a smaller form.

The regular truck, which is wheelchair accessible, was experiencing mechanical issues, according to mobile librarian Grant Swyers.

“It probably should be known that this van is always the back-up plan,” said Swyers. “I’ve got about 14 bins of books, and if the weather was nicer, like in the summer, we pull a couple of tables out and load the books onto the tables. The bookmobile itself has about 3000 items on board.”

Lower Nicola resident Carmen Fairley, who acts as an unofficial advocate for the program, printed bookmarks to pass out detailing the services The Bookmobile provides.

“This mobile unit functions like a regular library branch with books of all kinds, DVDs, free Wi-Fi, signup of new members and issue of library cards.”

You can also pick up books you have placed on hold at other library locations or online.
