“That Canadian Guy” is making his first appearance in the Nicola Valley and it appears all anyone had to do was ask.

Comedian Glen Foster, who boasts the aforementioned nickname, is making a stop in Merritt tonight in between weekend shows at comedy clubs in the Lower Mainland.

With a few nights to spare in between those shows, Foster posted on Facebook asking for suggestions on places to perform, and a fan from Merritt reached out with a request.

The fan put Foster in touch with the Merritt Desert Inn and long story short, the longtime stand-up comedian decided to drop in and tickle Merritt’s funny bone.

“I was just trying to fill in some empty nights and it just so happened the Desert Inn wanted to do something,” Foster said.

Foster has been on the T.V. show Just for Laughs eight times and has produced two, one-hour Comedy Now specials.

“If you watch The Comedy Network at all, I probably show up at least a few times a week in re-runs — the curse and the blessing of being in Canadian showbiz,” Foster told the Herald in an email.

Foster will be performing at the Merritt Desert Inn tonight at 8 p.m. and tickets can be purchased at the door.

“I’m trying to do smaller shows because comedy in big theatres is wonderful, but it kind of really belongs at ground level where people need it,” he said with a laugh.

“And a cabaret experience – a comedy club experience – is a more intimate experience, and if it’s going great, there’s nothing like a packed comedy room.” Foster said.
