Growth and development continue to be a consistant mainstay in the City of Merritt, reports Economic Development Manager James Umpherson.

During the month of November, 26 new jobs were created in the transportation and retail sector business industries.

In addition to the job creation, Umpherson stated in a press release that private sector development investment remains positive at a net $157,500.

He said that numbers show the business community remains committed to exploring creative opportunities as entrepreneurs in the business community.

“Even though the weather is changing and the construction season is winding down, the City of Merritt continues to see private sector [growth],” said Umpherson.

Both Umpherson and Mayor Susan Roline pointed out that consistent investment by entrepreneurs and developers in Merritt demonstrates that investment in the community remains healthy.

“The late fall numbers might not be earth shattering, but they do represent a commitment by private sector investment that starting a business and building in Merritt is good for business, good for development and good for the city,” said Roline.
