Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced on Thursday that there is a new coronavirus outbreak at the Okanagan Correctional Centre in Oliver.

Three staff were linked to the exposure.

She announced the outbreak in her daily press briefing, adding that there are 78 new COVID-19 cases in BC over the last day, four of which were in the Interior.

No new deaths were announced.

There are 578 active cases in the province, with nine in hospital. Four are in intensive care units.

In presenting new modelling, Dr. Henry said the median age has dropped steadily in recent weeks. The highest spikes in age curves are occurring in the 20-29 age group, with the 30-39 age group close behind.

She is reminding residents to avoid parties and large social gatherings.

Few children have been diagnosed in BC. 78 children under ten have tested positive, with two ending up in hospital.

There have been no deaths among people under 40.
