Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry gave an update Monday on trends for the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new modelling outlines the next steps the Province will take moving forward, while giving more detailed graphs than the usual daily numbers update.

One piece of information that Dr. Henry presented was that a disproportionate number of men become severely ill or die due to the virus, despite the number of cases being higher in females.

44-percent of cases in the Province have been male, though around three-quarters of the number of deaths have been men.

Another interesting new number given in the modelling: 97-percent of deaths from the virus have been over the age of 50.

The last modelling update was given on April 17.

Dr. Henry also presented the new numbers of cases and deaths, as part of her daily update. Since the last report on Saturday, B.C. has seen 53 new cases, bringing the total number of cases in B.C. to 2,224.

Only 19 new cases tested positive since Sunday.

1,417 people have totally recovered, or 64-percent.

174 cases have now tested positive in the Interior, while the vast majority of the total cases in B.C. have been either in Fraser Health or Vancouver Health.

Three more deaths were announced, all in long-term care facilities, bringing B.C.’s total to 117.

Premier John Horgan is expected to address the Province later this week about possible easing restrictions soon, on both the economy and schools.
