Crown counsel has approved a charge of driving without due care against a 67-year-old Merritt man who hit a 92-year-old female pedestrian earlier this year.

The fatal accident took place on March 2 at the intersection of Granite Avenue and Voght Street near the Merritt post office.

“There were several witnesses on scene, we did a thorough investigation and this is the result of that,” said RCMP Const. Brock Hedrick. “The charge itself is under the motor vehicle act and is one of the most serious charges under [that act].”

The male charged is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Dec. 4 in Merritt.
