Durand Lake evacuation downgraded from order to alert

The order to evacuate the Durand Lake area north of Merritt has been reduced to an alert.

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District Emergency Operations Centre downgraded the evacuation at around 9p.m. on July 8 for 95 properties in the area.

That includes:

• 4704 to 4792 Atwater Rd;
• 4700 to 4870 Mile High Lane;
• 4812 to 4897 Paska Lake Rd;
• 4730 to 4890 Pine Ridge Way;
• 4830 to 4860 Saddle Cres.
• 9273 to 9437 Dominic Lake Forest Service Rd;
• 4445 Greenstone Rd;
• 2380 to 5625 Tunkwa Lake Rd.

“This evacuation alert has been issued to prepare you to evacuate your premises or property should it be found necessary,” read an initial press release from the TNRD. “Residents will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to evacuation; however you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.”
