A 26-year-old man is dead after his vehicle rolled several times when it went off Highway 97C at Hamilton Hill this morning about five kilometres east of Merritt.
The male driver, who was also the lone occupant of the vehicle, failed to properly handle a curve and ended up colliding with a gravel embankment. The vehicle rolled and the driver was ejected from it.
Merritt RCMP responded to the single vehicle accident about 4:30 a.m. and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police and the BC Coroners Service is investigating the incident and alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor.
It was determined at the scene that the driver was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident and not doing so contributed to his ejection from the vehicle.
