Firefighters have a 1.5 hectare wildfire under control today after fire suppression efforts yesterday.

The fire was discovered on the afternoon of May 2 west of Merritt near Petit Creek Road.

Fire information officer Max Birkner said an initial attack crew of three firefighters and two pieces of heavy equipment worked to extinguish the flames and contain the fire. Four firefighters are on scene today.

“It hasn’t grown or anything, it’s basically being taken care of right now by a crew there,” Birkner said of the fire.

He said no structures were threatened by the flames, and the fire is believed to be human caused, but the fire is still under investigation.
