It was in January of 2019 that the Murray Church was burned down by arson.

Now, close to two years later, the historic church is set to break ground.

This Sunday, Oct. 25 there will be an official groundbreaking ceremony at the church site, with some of the work set to begin this fall.

The rebuild is a result of a community group’s work to raise close to $170,000 so far.

Before it was burned to the ground, the Murray Church was the oldest building in the Nicola Valley. It was built in 1867.

The group expects the church to be open to the public by sometime next summer.
