The Courthouse Arts Gallery is launching a new show in honour of Indigenous Peoples Day, which was June 21.

From the Earth: The Indigenous Peoples Show, will feature four First Nations artists from the Nicola Valley: Sharon Antoine, Shannon Kilroy, Hank Yamelst and Leonard George.

“Thanks to Coldwater spiritual elder Sharon Antoine and clothes designer Shannon Kilroy, the Courthouse Gallery is honouring the indigenous people in our valley and across Canada with an Arts Gallery show,” said Arts Gallery Director Jano Howarth.

“Hank Yamelst and Leonard George have also joined forces with us for the four-week show. From drums to baby moccasins, paintings, to First Nations designer outfits, there are many items on display. And beading, drums, rattles, and artwork is available for sale.”

The Nicola Valley Arts Gallery is once again open to the public, Thursday to Saturday 12pm-6pm but asks that people continue to do their part in limiting the spread of COVID-19.

“We will be following COVID guidelines,” said Howarth.

“There will be physical distancing, hand sanitizer and I’m saying bring your masks.”

Also in the works is a reception for the show, which would feature outdoor music and viewing of the artwork on June 25, weather permitting.

The show will run from June 19 to July 11.
