Over 30 horse-and-rider combinations from around southwestern B.C. convened at the Merritt rodeo grounds in Collettville on Saturday for a jackpot barrel racing competition. The event was sanctioned by both the Canadian and British Columbia Barrel Racing Associations.

Peewee and youth competitors ran the barrels once each, while those in the open class had two go-rounds.

Emma Antoine from Cache Creek topped the field in the peewee division with a time of 20.310 seconds. Overall winner in the youth category was Ali
Lantz from Peachland in 17.458 seconds.

There were some sizzling performances in the open division, led by Jolene Seitz and her horse Fame. The talented twosome from Savona laid down the fastest time of the day (16.660 seconds) to win the first go.

Just five-thousandths of a second slower (16.665) was the winner of the second go-round in the open class — Candace Chevallier from Peachland on her horse Annie.
