It is only three sleeps until the 40th anniversary virtual Terry Fox Run.  I feel like it is the night before Christmas.  We have done our best to get the word out, with posters, radio, newspaper, social media and word of mouth.  All very important in this crazy year of COVID.

If you have not already registered on terryfox.org, it is not too late.  You still have time to challenge four other people and head out on Sunday, Sept 20/2020 at your own time and pace.  You can walk, run, bike, blade, push a baby carrier, push a wheelchair, just go…

You still have time to donate, I would really love to see us surpass last year’s totals.  I was watching the news the other night and most charity donations are down this year.  Usually there is a social aspect to fund raising events, but that has changed this year.  So, we need to make our own social event, within our social bubbles.  Gather your social group and have some fun.

I would love to see the social media pictures of anyone who is participating.  You can post them on the terry fox Facebook page, our rotary Facebook page, or find me on face book.  I am sure Q101 and the Merritt Herald Facebook pages, would welcome your photos as well.

Some of our Rotarians will be social distancing at Voght Park to support David Brown, who will be ‘crutching’ around the park with his broken leg.  Merritt Herald will be there as well to take some photos, so make sure to wear your best ‘photo smile’.

I remember in 1980, hearing about this Terry Fox, who was attempting to run across Canada on one healthy leg and one artificial leg, to raise funds for Cancer Research, he wanted to stop the hurting.    I was as awed then as I a still am today.  I personally have lost 9 family members to cancer, so this is very personal to me.

Let us make this a year to remember for some positive outcomes, and this can be one of them.

Terry Fox Run, one day your way.  Try like Terry – Sunday, Sept 20, 2020

Thank you for your support.
