While the snow blew in Merritt this week, so too did $500,000 for one lucky local who won the Daily Grand pot.
Richard Carmichael purchased and later on checked his ticket at the local Pharmasave located along Garcia Street.
Initially, Carmichael couldn’t believe that he had the winning numbers.
“It doesn’t seem real… you don’t expect it to be you and all of a sudden it is,” he said.
“It’s unbelievable and exciting! I was quite excited in the beginning and after I calmed down a bit it’s still hard to believe.”
So far in 2022, B.C. lottery players redeemed more than $8 million in winnings from Daily Grand. The nationwide lottery game is drawn on Mondays and Thursdays after 7:30 p.m. (PST), with a top prize of $1,000 a day for life.
Carmichael’s wife was thrilled after hearing about the win. She was the first one to hear about the news.
The local now plans to head down to the Oregon Coast, plan other camping trips, and invest with his winnings. “It’s more or less a safety net,” he said.
