Those looking to sign out a book online can make use of the Thompson-Nicola Regional District Library System’s new website, which was launched on Wednesday.

“The best part of this new system is it’s lickidy-split fast,” said Deborah Merrick, Merritt Library manager. “For people who don’t have broadband it makes a big difference.”

People can also renew books on the site and download e-books and audiobooks, which was also available before, but now they are consolidated in a catalog.

The new site is designed to load quicker than the older version. This will benefit those who have a lower broadband service, which is common in Merritt due to a lack of access in many parts of town.

Many neighbourhoods are still functioning at three MHz, while other areas are at 25 MHz.

The new site also has larger book cover art and a new events and programs listing. A custom Google map can help you find the TNRD library closest to you.

“We felt it was time to give the website a fresh look as well as ensure our most popular resources were located conveniently front and centre,” said Kevin Kierans, director of libraries for the TNRD.

The website can be accessed at www.tnrdlib.ca.
