Merritt police are investigating a suspicious car fire after a 1997 Chevy Tahoe was set ablaze on a logging road near Helmer Lake on Feb. 15.

A piece of logging equipment that was in the area appears to have been used to further damage the SUV, RCMP Const. Tracy Dunsmore told the Herald.

“There was no damage to the logging equipment, but the vehicle that was lit on fire was parked nearby and it looked like it had been ripped apart prior to being set on fire,” Dunsmore said.

The truck was not reported stolen and police have made contact with the registered owner.
