Roger Sloan is tied for the lead in the PGA’s Wyndham Championship after day one.

The Merritt native shot a beautiful eight-under round of 62 to sit in a tie with his playing partner, Tom Hoge, as well as Harold Varner III.

The 29-year old’s starting eight holes were a golfer’s dream, managing six birdies to open the day.

Sloan only had to drain one bogey putt on the day, two-putting from just over eleven feet on the par-four ninth hole to card a five.

The back nine was a steady three-under for Sloan, birdieing the tenth, sixteenth, and seventeenth holes.

Second place would tie Sloan’s best ever finish on the PGA Tour, after managing to earn the two-spot at the Puerto Rico Open last year.

His best result so far in 2020 has been a tie for thirteenth at the Safeway Open.

Fellow Canuck Michael Gligic finished the day at three-under, and should sit somewhere around the twentieth position by day’s end.
