Roger Sloan is among a bevy of Canadians near or atop the Workday Charity Open leaderboard.

The Merritt native carded a four-under 68 on the first day of play, three shots back of the leader.

Fellow Canadians Adam Hadwin and Nick Taylor are also high up on the leaderboard.

After starting off the day at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Ohio with a set of pars, Sloan birdied two of the next three holes. He didn’t find his first bogey until the seventh, though he bounced back with a birdie the following hole.

After going two-under at the break, he continued his steady play with another two-under performance on the back nine.

He closed out the last two holes with a pair of commendable par saves after finding a pair of bunkers.

Sloan has found a good amount of success in his last two rounds: he was cut at last week’s star-studded Rocket Mortgage Classic, though it was an average first round that sank him before he carded a four-under second round.

He made the cut the week before at the Travelers Championship.

The 33-year old is still seeking his first PGA title, though he has won on the pro tours of the Web.com and Canadian Tours.

His best PGA finish is a four-way tie for second at the Puerto Rico Open last year.
