The Merritt Fire Rescue Department is hoping that speaking with the person who was injured in a house fire last week on the corner of Clapperton Avenue and Orme Street will lead them to the cause of the blaze.
“At this point, it’s undetermined [we’re] still waiting to talk to the occupant,” Fire Chief Dave Tomkinson said.
Tomkinson said that while an investigation was able to pinpoint the fire’s area of origin, the source of ignition was not found.
Without definitive evidence of a source, the fire’s cause remains unknown.
“That’s why in a case like this, talking to the occupant if we get the opportunity is important,” Tomkinson said.
The lone occupant was taken to the hospital that day in critical condition with burns and smoke inhalation.
