Those who are used to taking a pit stop at the BC Visitor centre on the Coquihalla Highway will find now find the building closed, but those continuing on from Merritt to Kelowna will have a new place to stop — one equipped with some modern amenities.

The Loon Lake rest area is now open to the public, located approximately 40 kilometres southeast of Merritt on Highway 97C. The new rest area comes equipped with running water and flush toilets, a landscaped area with picnic tables and will be one of eight rest areas in B.C. to feature free Wi-Fi later this year.

Electric car charging stations will be added to the Loon Lake stop this spring. The modernized rest stop came at a cost of $4.2 million.
