The case of Garry Taylor Handlen for the murder of local girl Monica Jack in 1978 will go to trial in B.C. Supreme Court.
The move from provincial court to the province’s highest court means there won’t be a preliminary inquiry, in which a judge determines if the Crown has enough evidence to proceed with a trial for an indictable offence.
Monica Jack was 12 years old when she disappeared while riding her bike on Highway 5A. Her remains were discovered in the 1990s.
Handlen was arrested in Surrey in December of last year.
He is also charged with first degree murder in the death of 11-year-old Kathryn-Mary Herbert in 1975 in Abbotsford.
