For the first time in three weeks, the Merritt Centennials will be playing in front of hometown fans tonight against the Wenatchee Wild.

The City of Merritt Recreation Department announced on Dec. 2 that the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena will be reopened today, Dec. 3, for regularly scheduled programming.

“Whether it’s getting your kids back on the ice for a hockey practice, public skating, or attending a Merritt Centennials game, the hope is to bring back a sense of normalcy for our residents and our staff members,” reads a release from city staff.

The reopening of the Aquatic Centre will be announced once a schedule is put in place for pool staff.

Tonight’s Centennials game, the first at the NVMA since Nov. 12, will feature a matchup with a 3-9-2 Wenatchee squad riding a three-game losing streak. The Cents, meanwhile, will be playing in only their second game since their last time at home, having fallen 8-0 to the powerhouse Penticton Vees on Nov. 26.

Hosting their first game since the capacity limit was lifted for Interior indoor sporting venues on Nov. 30, admission tonight will be by donation, with all proceeds going towards flood recovery in Merritt.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7p.m.

The Cents then play host to the Trail Smoke Eaters the following day, same start time.
