For the first time, a Monday update announced four figures worth of new COVID-19 cases over the weekend.

Since Friday, there have been 1,120 new cases.

The breakdown:

Fri-Sat: 352

Sat-Sun: 389

Sun-Mon: 379

The Saturday-Sunday numbers are a new one-day record in the province.

Deputy Provincial Health Officer Dr. Reka Gustafson took over her boss’ duties for the day, namely Dr. Bonnie Henry, who is taking a few days off.

“These numbers are concerning for all of us,” said Dr. Gustafson.

36 of the new cases were in the Interior Health region. Around 75% of the new cases occurred in Fraser Health Authority.

There were six new deaths over the weekend.

There have no been a total of 15,501 COVID-19 cases in BC.

BC is entering its eleventh month of the pandemic.
